Sleep, sleep....please sleep!

The kids are refusing. They have been for the past week and a half. The knitting is neglected, not to mention the spinning, my house is a wreck and I'm crabby. Just not a nice person when I don't get adequate sleep. I know it's temporary, but geez, can we just get back to the part of my life where I get decent sleep?

Miss G's new habit? Wake up anywhere between 3:30 and 4:40 am and start laughing, hollering and kicking your crib. Very loudly. Until you wake up Miss E who is trying to sleep in her crib 3 feet away. Continue until you're worn out and start crying. Not the quiet, whimpering kind, but the loud, screaming wake-the-neighbors or I'm-being-tortured crying.

Then there's the X Factor. Usually my champion of sleep. He's slept through the night with only minor interuption since the day we came home from the hospital. Heaven on earth....but the honeymoon is over. No napping for any longer than 12 minutes at a time unlesss being held. No sleeping throught the night, either. Wake up crying 2-3 times an hour for the four hours prior to our "normal" getting up time.

Mom: super-cranky. X Man: super-exhausted. Dad: trying to remain upbeat and sane.

I can only pray it's the teeth. Both girlies had two teeth between 3 & 4 months. I can see where he's working on them along his bottom gum.

Now you know the sad, sad tale of the unsleeping children.

*********************************************************
A while back I started knitting up the Plucky Fluff ala Katie yarn into a scarf. It's about 1/2 way done. I hope to have it finished up before next Tues. It's going to be a "prayer shawl" for the mom of 3 of my kiddos in my Montessori catechesis class. She has had a recurrence of cancer & it makes me so sad. It was supposed to be for this week's session, but the kids aren't sleeping. (See above.)

The only other thing that I have on the needles is a surprize project involving the fuschia Cathay seen below. I'd tell you what it is, but then I'd have to.....ahem, nevermind. I want to submit it to Knitty, so it's hush-hush right now. If it get's rejected, I'll post copious pictures. If it gets accepted, then you'll have to see the issue after next.

I do have to say that the Cathay is bugging me a bit. It's a cabled yarn, but the plies are so loose. They're forever coming apart with no provocation and I usually split one while knitting along. Arg. There are a few I've missed several rows down that I've just abandoned because they're in a heavily shaped area that I can't drop down to and redo with a crochet hook. Why do yarn makers make yarn that's hard to knit with? Hard as in aggrevating. Not just something that needs a bit more planning like space dyed yarns, but yarn that does not want to be knit.

May I never spin a yarn that does not want to be knit.

Finally, the spinning update. I'm spinning an
ugly batt from High Prairie Fibers. Mine are the 112 & 110. (I have them here, even though they're not marked sold.) So the red one is on the wheel. I've actually pulled apart the layers, so I have one 2oz. single in red and dark grey, worsted weight. On the wheel right now is another layer which is light grey with green, purple and orange flecks in it. Sock weight. I need to ply it with something to make it more suitable for sock wear. One bobbin is almost full. When I get enough for a pair of socks, I plan to handpaint it in rainbow colors, partly dyed, partly natural, self striping. Pics when the X Man is not sleeping on my lap.

Happy sleep to all of you who've made it this far!

Thanks for the memories of sleepless nights--just when I was feeling sorry for myself with the younger two of my four kids yelling at one another over their independent kingdoms made of Duplos--all over the living room. I got a good night's sleep and I'm still crabby today. Where's that damned chocolate?! I'm going to go knit a bit.

Glad to take you down memory lane.

I had chocolate myself. Actually, I made Nick a Bailey's Irish Cream Cheescake with chocolate drizzle for Valentine's day. He shared a piece with me. mmm yummy!

I think that I will finally be able to sleep through the night around the same time I don't have to get up from the dinner table every 2 seconds to get 1. food 2. water 3. rags to wipe up spillage. lol

Miss you!
